Grade School Unit

Miriam College Grade School (MCGS) is a seven-year program that further encourages and provides enriching opportunities for young girls to grow into confident and well-rounded individuals. Subject areas integrate the core values of truth, justice, peace, and integrity of creation through relevant programs that put the students at the center of the learning process.

The Academic Program of MCGS provides learning opportunities for students to develop themselves into effective communicators, technologically-adept and globally-responsive citizens. Students learn through integration, problem-posing approach, metacognitive strategies, and cooperative learning.

To make sure the girls feel at ease and consider Miriam College their second home, the school provides non-academic programs such as homeroom program, student activities and student services. Student activities include various club memberships, educational field trips and outreach, among others. Student services include guidance, spiritual formation and health programs.

Our Academic Programs

Empowered and guided by its vision and mission, MCGS commits itself to uphold high standards in the implementation of a truly holistic academic program. It provides quality instruction across subject areas, ensuring that all subject offerings and teaching approaches and strategies are geared towards the fulfillment of its twin goals: academic excellence and values formation.

A high standard of teaching is maintained through
  1. the use of innovative teaching strategies across subjects in the delivery of curriculum content and learning outcomes;
  2. the use of innovative materials and equipment to support learning; and
  3. an efficient system of monitoring and evaluating instruction.

The MCGS teacher firmly believes that students’ enthusiasm and motivation for learning are nourished and sustained when they are able to concretely see how they can put to good use the concepts and skills they are learning. The academic programs include: Christian Living Education, Reading, Language, Filipino, Araling Panlipunan, Mathematics, Science, Art, Music, Physical Education, Home Economics and Livelihood Education, and Computer Education.

MCGS recognizes that students differ in types and levels of intelligence and ability and therefore have different needs. There are students who exhibit high performance capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, artistic, leadership, and so forth, while there are those who need assistance in learning specific academic skills.

MCGS believes that these students have a right to access an education appropriate to their strengths and areas needing improvement. The following special programs are designed to meet such needs:

  • STRIDES or Student Training In Developing and Enhancing Math, English, and Science Skills
  • PERFORMS or Program Enrichment for Reading, Mathematics, and Science
  • Special Filipino to cater to foreign students
  • Special Araling Panlipunan for both foreign and non-Filipino speaking students
