Third Year BS Psychology student Elaijah Quing emerged as the National Winner and Grand Finalist for the English Speaking Union International Public Speaking Competition (ESU IPSC) last February 14 at FEU-Makati. This win makes her the Philippine representative to the ESU IPSC set on May 11-15, 2015 at Dartmouth House, Central London. She bested 42 students from different colleges and universities nationwide.
During the final rounds, Quing was up against Betina dela Cruz of Asia Pacific College and Calvin Chua of De La Salle University. She impressed the judges with her masterful delivery of her speech themed “Culture is not a luxury but a necessity” and for her extemporaneous speech.
The ESU, now on its 33rd year, brings together the best speakers from all over the world for a week of international cultural exchange and public speaking competition. In 2004, journalist and documentary filmmaker Patricia Evangelista was the first Filipino winner of the said competition.
