||Lingap Bulilit, which means “to care for little children,” is Miriam College’s educational outreach for the poor children in barangay day care centers. The goal of the program is to help prepare these children for the “big school,” that is, to equip them with the skills, knowledge and values that are necessary to survive the demands and challenges of elementary school and beyond.
To reach this goal, Lingap Bulilit trains community-based teachers and volunteers, most of whom have no formal training in education, specifically in early childhood education. This is why at the heart of Lingap Bulilit is teacher-training intended to help them perform the enormous task of educating young hearts and minds.
|As an innovation, Miriam College is introducing Lingap Bulilit on Wheels. The central concept is to bring a mobile library to day care and pre-school children. Lingap Bulilit on Wheels aims to cultivate the love for reading among young children. Through this project, Miriam College experts and volunteers will conduct storytelling sessions and other fun activities in barangay day care centers and public pre-schools.
