Environmental Planning and
Management
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
Environmental Planning and
Management (EPM) is a degree course offered only by Miriam
College. It upholds the need to balance economic growth with
social justice and the conservation of natural resources.
The curriculum is designed to
drive students towards academic excellence in the basic sciences
and their planning applications, to produce graduates who are
professionally recognized in their field, and to nurture persons
with a strong love and respect for nature, country, and the
Divine Creator.
The program covers different
aspects of planning at the urban and regional level, for social
sectors such as housing and education, and for economic sectors
such as agriculture and commerce. Students are taught to render
plans in both spatial (maps) and technical (proposals) forms.
EPM students take up courses in
the earth sciences: biology, chemistry, ecology, and
environmental impact assessment. They are prepared for current
social realities with subjects in community relations and
advocacy, and are also asked to take up special subjects in
corporate environmental management and environmental law.
At the end of the course, everyone
is allowed to choose the subject of their thesis. As whole, this
course provides skills and field experiences that prepare the
students for their roles as planners and stewards of the
environment.
