FACILITIES & STUDENT SERVICES

I. Guidance and Testing Center
The Guidance Center offers five basic services: information, student-appraisal and individual inventory, counseling, placement and follow-up, and evaluation and research.

Information services include orientation talks and campus tours at the beginning of the school year, inter-school sharing, orientation to High School and career talks, student leadership training, and parent- teacher and counselors’ conferences.

Student-appraisal and Individual Inventory include the administration and interpretation of standardized tests, record keeping, and the handling of special cases.

Counseling services include individual and group voluntary counseling, academic counseling, routine counseling, and group guidance sessions and referrals. Sessions are held once a month for two consecutive periods from Grades 1 to 7. Activities are geared toward values formation and the development of your child in all aspects.

The Placement and Follow-up program involves the administration of entrance examinations to incoming students, follow-up of referred cases, re-sectioning of students and follow-up of Miriam College Grade School graduates.

Evaluation and research include the year-end evaluation of group guidance classes and counseling services, action research and similar studies that would be of help to the Grade School community.

II. Library Media Center
The Library Media Center (LMC) houses a fully-stocked library and audio-visual facilities like viewing rooms, mini-auditorium, preview/meeting rooms and a recording studio.

It is an important information hub of the school. Multi-media resources for Grade School curriculum areas and books and other printed materials for leisure and entertainment are available for students and teachers use. Modern information technologies provide access to research sources that are current and easy to use. Professional librarians oversee the daily operations of the center.

III. Medical and Dental Services

The Clinic is open Mondays to Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nurses are on duty to attend to students who come for consultation. During emergencies, students are administered first-aid while parents are being contacted. If necessary, students are brought to the University of the Philippines Infirmary or nearby hospitals with the parent’s consent. A doctor and dentist are also available on scheduled days to attend to the medical and dental needs of students.

IV. Bookstore
School supplies and a variety of materials needed in the accomplishment of academic requirements may be purchased from the Bookstore.

V. Cafeteria
Hot food is served during recess and lunch time. Students may buy their lunch from the cafeteria or bring their own food when they come to school in the morning.

Tables and chairs are available for students’ use. Cleanliness is regularly maintained at the Cafeteria. Solid Waste Management is observed by the entire Grade School community.

VI. Bus Service and Carpooling
Arrangements for bus service and carpooling may be made directly with the operators. The school facilitates the contacts between the two parties. However, the school is not in anyway involved in negotiations for rates, schedules for pick-up, and collections. Students are expected to be at the bus area five minutes before their bus leaves.

VII. Chapel
Named the Our Lady of Rosary Chapel, daily Masses and other liturgical and paraliturgical celebrations are held here. It is also the place where one can spend quiet moments with God.

VIII. Computer Rooms
The Grade School houses four Computer Laboratories that are strategically located to cater to the Lower and Middle School students. Each laboratory is furnished with 45 networked multimedia computers so that the students can enjoy a 1:1 student to computer ratio. All computers are wired to the internet and to a high-speed colored network printer. Moreover, only licensed software are installed in each computer. To facilitate learning, students’ computers are managed by a licensed network management facility that can broadcast and control students’ computers.

IX. Science Laboratories
The Grade School has two adequately equipped Science laboratories. With the wide variety of laboratory equipment available, the students are given opportunities to further discover and investigate evidence that support basic concepts in Science. The laboratories provide the students a haven where the scientific method is explored and experiments are conducted.

X. Mother Mary Joseph and Chapel Covered Courts
These two covered courts serve the Grade School in different ways. They are venues for student assemblies, academic celebrations, family days and dismissal areas. The most important function of these venues, however, is that they are the classrooms for the Physical education classes of the Grade School.

XI. Home Economics and Livelihood Education (HELE) Room
The Grade School has two HELE Rooms. One room houses the simulated living room and bedroom, while the other the dining room and the kitchen. Both rooms serve as laboratories where students perform tasks related to food preparation and home management.
