The Academic Program

Miriam College High School offers eight subject areas, namely, English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Technology and Home Economics (THE), Filipino, Araling Panlipunan, Physical Education, Health, and Music, and Christian Life Education in lieu of Values Education. Citizens’ Awareness Training (CAT) and Social Action are integrated as special advocacy programs in the curriculum. These are further paired off or clustered in order to form adjunct areas that share common topics and competencies. These adjunct areas make concepts, skills, and tasks more comprehensible and life-like.


Christian Life Education

The Christian Life Education Area of MCHS aims to form young Filipino Catholic women who, as true daughters of Miriam of Nazareth and nourished by the Sacraments and constant dialogue with God, are hearers and doers of the Word in the classrooms, in the community, and in the world. At the heart of the Christian Life Area’s mission is the conviction to make the Gospel simple, attractive, and relevant.

Filipino

Ang Departamento ng Filipino sa Mataas na Paaralan ng Miriam ay naglalayong makahubog ng mga mag-aaral na may kasanayan at kahusayan sa paggamit ng wikang sarili sa pamamagitan ng pag-unawa sa kasaysayan ng lahi, pagpapahalaga sa sariling lahi, pagpapayaman sa kultura at tradisyong Pilipino, pagtugon sa pangangailangan at pagbabago ng panahon, pagpapalaganap sa iba’t ibang pagdulog na tutulong sa pag-unlad ng kabuuang pagkatao na pinapatnubayan ng Panginoon at Birheng Maria sa kanilang pamumuhay at pakikitungo sa kapwa.

Taon II Wika, “Florante at Laura” at iba’t ibang Anyo ng Panitikan

Ang Special Filipino ay nilikha upang matugunan ang pangangailangan ng mga mag-aaral sa una at ikalawang taon na hindi marunong magsalita sa wikang Filipino sapagkat sila ay nagmula sa ibang bansa.

Social Studies/Araling Panlipunan

The Social Studies academic program consists of teaching-learning activities that equip young Catholic Filipino women with the knowledge and skills needed to bring about positive and meaningful changes in our national, Asian, and global communities and instill in their minds and hearts the noble and edifying values of truth, peace, justice, and integrity of creation.

English

Guided by the vision of forming young Catholic Filipino women to communicate effectively in English as they search for their personal identity, take pride in their cultural heritage, and respond critically to current local and global issues, the English program adopts the principles of integrated language work woven in a thematic language and literature learning environment. The program covers such themes as self, family, peer, nation, and the world, thus making the resulting lessons truly life-like, student-centered, and values-infused.

Year IV English for Social Justice

Mathematics

The Mathematics Area provides an environment where students learn both cooperatively and independently; think logically and analytically; communicate mathematical ideas coherently and precisely; and recognize and apply mathematics in context outside of this area. Provisions are made both for students who need closed supervision and assistance and also for students who need further enrichment to develop their mathematical abilities and appreciation for the subject.

Science

The Science Area seeks to form young women with a critical mind and a global perspective based on a passion for scientific inquiry by providing investigatory projects, laboratory activities, educational field trips, computer-aided instruction, and environmental awareness activities.

Technology and Home Economics (THE)

As a life-skill-based learning program, THE is geared towards the full development of instrumental, interpersonal, and organizational competence, it provides students opportunities to enhance their creativity, self-mastery, and self-nurturance through artistic expressions and nutrition awareness needed to perform their academic tasks, prepare them for tertiary education and enable them to participate actively in the home and their community.

Physical Education, Health, Music, and Citizens’ Awareness Training (PEHM-CAT)

The PEHM-CAT area aims to provide a holistic program that will develop young Filipino women who are physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and spiritually well; develop practices that will lead to a healthy lifestyle; and equip the girls with skills that will enable them to be disciplined, creative, participative, and morally upright citizens of the nation.

Philippine Physical Fitness Test (PPFT), Volleyball, and Philippine Folk Dance
Elements of Music and note reading using Filipino folk songs
Basic Hygiene, Reproductive Health, and Basic Child Care

Year II

Philippine Physical Fitness Test (PPFT), Badminton, and Philippine Folk Dance
Elements of Music and note reading using Filipino folk songs

Year III

Table Tennis, Modern Dance, and Tae-bo
Elements of Music and History of Western Music
Reproductive Health, Basic Child Care, and Basic Care Giving

Year IV

Basketball, Ballroom Dancing, and Pilates/Yoga
Composing and arranging a batch song for the graduation
Knowing and Serving the Community, Training for Public Safety, and Social Action
