SUMMER INSTITUTE ON MIGRATION

The Migration Studies and Research Program of Miriam College, a pioneering graduate academic program on migration in the Philippines is offering its Second Summer Institute on Migration from May 12 to 17, 2008 to equip frontline government officials, policy makers, faculty, graduate students, and NGOs on the basics of migration.
The course focuses on a number of interesting topics starting from the regional overview of international migration with gender perspectives on migration, to liberalization of services and labor. It will also look into the comparative policies and management of migration as well as the important aspect of human rights and global insecurities including forced migration, trafficking, identity and diaspora.
A training team of Filipino and transnational experts will provide the current analysis and recent developments in the specialized areas of migration. The course also includes an exposure trip to some government agencies involved in migration work such as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Philippine Port Authority. Other agencies like Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and non government agencies working on migration issues will be invited to share some of their programs and innovations for migrants and their families.
The registration fee of PhP7,000.00 (for local participants) / US$ 350.00 (for foreign participants) will cover the training materials, lunch, snacks, exposure trip, and certificate of participation.
