Bachelor of Elementary Education

The Bachelor of Elementary Education is an undergraduate degree program designed to prepare you to teach in the elementary level (Grades 3 to 6). In this program, you will encounter various field experiences, internship and service learning opportunities that will allow you to understand the connection between theory and practice. Through immersion in various learning experiences that involve project based learning and learning by making, you will be exposed to a culture of collaborative inquiry which is necessary in the preparation of teachers who can address the needs of the 21st century learners.

Through the guidance of practicing teacher mentors and college faculty, you will develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions crucial in the formation of effective, committed, trailblazing and student-centered educators who possess an asset based mindset.

What Will I Study?

Below are some of the topics and core courses that you will take:

This course will give you an understanding of spiraling basic science concepts and the application of science inquiry in Chemistry and Biology. You will learn how to use teaching strategies in elementary science, development of instructional materials and assessment. This course provides you with an understanding of major theories and research findings in the physical, cognitive, language and social/emotional domains of development of young children from conception through age 8. You will do observations in early childhood schools and centers to contextualize the discussions in your class.
You will be equipped with a strong background in local history and culture. This will serve as an avenue for further inquiry of the available resources in the community for the localization and contextualization of teaching of elementary subjects. You
You will learn pedagogical content knowledge and skills in technology and livelihood education necessary in teaching and learning in the elementary level through the experiential learning approach. Selected topics in agriculture, arts, fisheries and livelihood education and entrepreneurship shall form a major part of the course.
In this course you will develop and use digital and non-digital teaching-learning resources using technology tools appropriate in various subject areas in the elementary level. You will be given opportunities to use technology tools to develop project-based collaborative activities and share resources among communities of practice.
This course will make you deal with the educational foundations of Music as it applies to teaching and learning in the elementary grades. Various teaching strategies and assessment appropriate for each area shall be given emphases.
In this course you will learn the integration of technological pedagogical content knowledge that includes topics on rational numbers, measurement, geometric figures, pre-algebra concepts, application of simple probability and data analysis. This will be capped with microteaching that utilizes appropriate teaching strategies for the development of critical and problem-solving, reasoning, communicating, making corrections, representations and decisions in real life situations.
