DESCRIPTION OF THE M.C.H.S. MEDIA CENTER
  The MCHS Media Center is a service facility housing
various instructional media materials collection, equipment collection, production
facilities, and a professionally trained staff.
  It provides the Miriam College High School Community with
instructional materials and technology support services required for academic and
MCHS-sponsored non-academic programs.
  There are two offices of the
Media Center:
The Main Media Center is located in
the 2nd floor of the St. Joseph Building. This office houses the instructional
materials collection, the media production room and the viewing facilities for
walk-in clients. Exhibits of new instructional media before purchase is held
in this office. The Media Center supervisor and the media office assistant
hold their offices in the main Media Center.
The Equipment Resource Center is located
in the 2nd floor of the St. Joan of Arc building. This office houses the equipment
collection and repair section of the Center. Reservation and scheduling of use of
the Multimedia room (MMR) and the Speech and Drama room (SDR) as well as the equipment
are done in this office. The media technicians attend to these needs.
OFFICE HOURS
 Both offices are open from
7:00am to 5:00pm. There are 3 media technicians assigned at the Equipment Resource Center.
The media supervisor and two media office staff are assigned at the main Media Center.

SERVICES OFFERED
Circulation of Resources
The Media Center organizes and manages the instructional
media and technology collections of the MCHS and facilitates their use by the
members of the community.
Viewing Facility
The Media Center provides the following: CD-ROM
viewing section, the audio listening section and the video viewing section to support
the teachers' previewing of materials for integration in their instruction and
to facilitate the students' independent learning experiences.
Classroom Technology Support
The Media Center manages the upkeep and use of the
following equipment in the individual classrooms: overhead projectors, television
sets, video recorders/players. It facilitates the integration of these and
other communication resources into instructional learning situations so that those
resources become an integral part of the teaching-learning environment.
Special Event Support
The Media Center provides photocoverage/video
documentation and communication resources like public address system for
MCHS-sponsored special events.

Instructional Media Production
The Media Center assists in designing,
producing and developing specialized media for instructions like transparencies, video, audio
and computer-based instructional media like powerpoint, digital photography, cd-rom
and webpages for specific teaching-learning needs.
Acquisition of Instructional Media
The Media Center facilitates the evaluation and
acquisition of commercially porduced instructional media.
Training and Consultation on Technology Use
The Media Center provides individual training for
faculty on the care and use of media equipment. It also assists in providing
in-service training programs or workshops on technology-based and technology-assisted
teaching practices. Also, the center welcomes consultations on designing and
integrating instructional media into the teaching-learning process.
POLICIES
On Clients Support:
The MCHS Media Center serves the MCHS community free of charge during the regular
office hours. Beyond it, staff fees apply. Clients outside the MCHS community
may be entertained with equipment/material fees and staff fees.
On Activities Support:
As a general rule, the office provides support for media and technology needs of
instruction and related events on-campus. The office does not provide support to
off-campus activities unless they are MCHS-sponsored.
On All Media and Technology Request:
(for teachers, staff and administrators only)
All are encouraged to make media requests one week in advance to ensure availability
and provision.
For unanticipated media needs, the media center will do its best to be
accomodating as long as resources are available and time may allow. (except for
setting-up service and the equipment under Set-Up list.)
The SDR and MMR may be reserved only by the faculty or staff.
All equipment may be lent only to those who display skill in operating them.
Previewing of instructional materials may be done only in the viewing section of
the media center.
On Borrowing Equipment and Materials:
Multimedia projectors, video, and digital cameras may be lent and should be returned
within the same day. The rest of equipment under Sign Out list may be lent to
teachers for 5 schooldays. Media materials may be lent to teachers for a quarter.
They must be renewed if they will be used after the quarter.
For students, media materials (limited to audio and video tapes and compact discs)
may be lent and should be returned within the same day. Among the equipment, only
boom boxes, voice recorders, voice amplifiers and video cameras are allowed for
students' borrowing.
Borrowed materials and equipment should be returned on time. A teacher/student
incurs a fine of 10 pesos/day for materials and 50 pesos/day for equipment he/she
fails to return.
Equipment and materials should be returned in good working condition. The
Media Center should be informed immediately of any malfunction of equipment.
The office reserves the right to charge the borrower for lost, stolen or broken
equipment and/or materials.
On Media Production:
The office shall give support to media production requested by teachers for
instructional purposes only.
Media duplication should follow copyright laws.
Students may be accomodated for media production only after office hours.
They must log in the schedule folder.
