Rosario “Cha” Sinon, seasoned radio practitioner, is Radio MC’s moderator and mentor for PODCON. This is the fourth year that Radio MC, under Sinon’s mentorship and the Department of Communication’s support, has brought home an award from PODCON.
PODCON is an annual event organized by UST Communication Arts Students’ Association (UST CASA), the official student organization of Communication Arts students of UST, and Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas. Every year, PODCON selects a relevant and timely theme that will also be the topic of all entries for the PS Awards. This year, in time for elections, the theme is "Radio and Politics: The Influence of Mass Media During Elections."
The PS Awards was held on the last day of the convention. There are four major awards: Best Radio Documentary, Best Radio Drama, Best Radio Disk Jockey, and Fan Favorite. UST CASA collected over hundreds of entries for each category from different colleges and universities. Radio MC, the official radio organization of Miriam College, brought home two out of the four major awards this year.
“Botante,” was about the different forms of media political candidates use for their campaign and the relationship between Filipino culture and voters’ reaction to these candidates’ ongoing campaign.
“Musika Pinoy,” on the other hand, is Radio MC’s regular program that features Original Pinoy Music (OPM). For the competition, participants focused on the upcoming elections and played different jingles used by candidates from the past election campaigns. They also discussed how the different media platforms should be used by candidates during the campaign period, and by voters as well.
