Cultivating Wonder: Integrating Wonder-based Learning into the Classroom

"Our inner image of the child is like a lens that shapes everything we do as educators. What is your mighty purpose as an educator?  The child is the true curriculum and the teacher is the true environment."

These were only a few of the so many rich and inspiring insights shared by Fairy Dust Teaching CEO and Founder, Ms. Sally Haughey who came to the Philippines for a two-day seminar-workshop on Integrating Wonder Based Learning into early childhood classrooms.  Fortitudo Training Services, in cooperation with the College of Education of Miriam College, held this  well-attended event last July 27 and July 28, 2019 at the Innovatrium, Henry Sy Innovation Center. Delegates across the Philippines as well as from Singapore and Australia were moved, inspired, and challenged by Ms. Sally to cultivate wonder into their early childhood classrooms.

How does an early childhood educator cultivate wonder? Wonder-based learning begins with understanding our views of learners and our personal identities as educators and is built on passionate and inspired teaching practices, highly engaged families and community, and highly engaged learners - the children who  have the right to play and are active co-constructors in learning. Anchored on Reggio-Emilia inspired approaches and techniques, Ms. Sally inspired the audience with her own heartfelt experiences growing up as a child as well as her challenges and triumphs as an early childhood educator.  Through reflection, workshops, and hands-on activities, early childhood educators rekindled their own sense of wonder and were equipped with activities, strategies and techniques to nurture children's innate curiosity and excitement for learning.
