New Miriam College President says self-learning is a necessary skill of the future | Philippine Daily Inquirer

In a world challenged by disruptions, interruptions, and even eruptions brought by advanced technology and climate change, the new Miriam College (MC) president, Amb. Laura Quiambao-Del Rosario, emphasized the need to create a learning environment where students can self-learn.

"This skill will be needed as they transition from one job to another in a future of uncertainty
and vulnerability," she said in her speech during her investiture at Miriam College held last Feb. 5.

"We at Miriam College hope to help parents raise a generation of self-learners who can contribute to their community, to national development, and to global efforts in realizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals," she added.

Under her leadership, Amb. Quiambao-Del Rosario will introduce interdisciplinary curricula and transdisciplinary courses where students can be knowledgeable and have expertise in two or more disciplines under one course.

Amb. Quiambao-Del Rosario was sworn in by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Comm.
Aldrin Darilag, Ph.D., at Marian Auditorium in MC, Quezon City.

Present at the investiture were members of the MC community led by the chair of the Board of Trustees, Josefina N. Tan; friends and colleagues of Amb. Quiambao-Del Rosario from the Department of Foreign
Affairs (DFA) and from the diplomatic circle; and school presidents from U.P., Ateneo, Assumption College, St. Scholastica's College, College of the Holy Spirit, St. Paul's College, and Holy Angel University. Also present was former CHED Commissioner Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan.

Prior to her appointment as president, Amb. Quiambao-Del Rosario served as a trustee of the MC Board. She also served for 37 years in the foreign service, which culminated in her appointment as DFA Undersecretary from 2011-2016. She is an alumna of the school where she completed her
bachelor's degree major in English Literature, magna cum laude.

Miriam College has a coed campus in Nuvali, Calamba, Laguna. The school will soon open a new campus in Porac, Pampanga.
