Southeast Asian Institute of the Deaf

We are the First Total Communication school in the Philippines. We believe that within each child who is deaf lies the same potential for future growth that is inherent in all children. We utilize all language modalities: child-devised gestures, formal language of signs, speech, speech reading, finger spelling, amplification of residual hearing, reading and writing, to develop goals of language competence and scholastic success in deaf education. Special learning areas such as Rhythm, Sign Language and other essential components in the education of the deaf child are integrated in the curriculum.

Program Highlights

  • Integrated Family Communication and Education Program

Sign language classes are offered to parents, siblings, guardians, and caregivers of students. There are 3 curriculum levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

  • Low Student-Teacher Ratio

A low student-teacher ratio allows teachers to accommodate individual needs and different learning styles. This supports the students in reaching their full potential.

  •
  • Reading for the Deaf

To ensure the student’s engagement in reading, we provide enriching opportunities and fun reading activities to enhance interest and enthusiasm towards learning.

  • Christian Values Formation

Inspired by the core values of Miriam College, we believe in upholding truth, justice, peace, and integrity of creation as we prepare learners in facing the realities of life.

  •
  • School within a School

The location of MC-SAID within a regular college campus provides an ideal setting for physical, social, and academic integration of our students with hearing peers. They are able to interact with their counterparts from the elementary, secondary, and college levels, including students from schools just outside of Miriam College.

  • Integrated Wellness Program

To ensure a holistic development for its learners, MC-SAID provides activities that are designed to stimulate interests and programs that would ensure they are emotionally cared for.

  •
  • Experiential Learning

The Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Center, the Philippines’ first integrated makerspace, is located in Miriam College. It is a place for discovering, inventing, and problem-solving. It features eight creative learning spaces where learners can explore and transform ideas into products.
