Alumna and Mayor Donya Tesoro featured by ABS-CBN News as one of the “Millenial Mayors” of Mega Manila

Donya Tesoro proves that age is just a number. At 28 years old, Donya (Coll 2012) was recently elected as the newest Mayor of the agricultural municipality of San Manuel, Tarlac.

ABS-CBN News featured Donya as one of Mega Manila’s “Millenial Mayors” who emerged as winners from the recently concluded elections. Donya takes after her father, former San Manuel Mayor Bening Tesoro. Her stint in politics came right after graduating from MC – she immediately ran for Councilor in 2013, during her father’s second term in office.

Donya exemplifies how social media can be used positively and responsibly for community mobilization.  A true Communications graduate, Donya uses her skills in social media for community building. She set up an active Facebook community page for the people of San Manuel, so that they are updated on the local governments projects. In the feature, Donya was quoted as saying, “One of the biggest factors why I won is because I created a community on Facebook of those from San Manuel,” Tesoro said. “They are able to see it and say, ‘Oh! She’s been doing so much. The town has changed a lot.’”

We congratulate Donya for her active public service, and we look forward to hearing more news about her positive work in San Manuel, Tarlac.
