MCHS alumna Janice Velasco Gruenberg wins big in two aerial silk competitions recently held online. She placed 2nd at the Australian Aerial Championships where she competed in the Intermediate Silk category of the Adult Division (17 years old and above). She also won Intermediate Champion of the La Folie National Aerial Video Competition.
Janice’s passion for aerial silks began in 2018. Janice trains hard four times a week. “It keeps me fit, clears my mind and makes me strong.” Janice graduated from Maryknoll High School in 1988. In her senior year, she was the team captain of the MCHS volleyball varsity team.
When Janice isn’t flying high on her aerial silks, she works as an executive at Fortune 500 company FIS or the Fidelity National Information Services Inc. She joined the company in 2005 and is now the Country Manager of FIS in the Philippines. In this role, Janice makes sure that FIS Capital Markets sustains good business in the Philippines. “Growing revenues, signing new contracts and keeping clients happy and sticky is what FIS hired me to do,” according to a feature on her in the FIS website.
Despite being relatively new to the sport, Janice has proven that hard work and perseverance really pay off. Congratulations, Janice! Thank you for teaching us that it is never too late to pursue your passions.
