Call for submission: Virtual exhibit in celebration of African American History Month with the theme “Leadership, Courage, and Diversity”

Each February, the United States celebrates African American History Month, also known as Black History Month. This annual observance recognizes the important achievements and contributions by African Americans in U.S. history.

This year, the American Spaces of the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines is launching a virtual exhibit in celebration of African American History Month with the theme “Leadership, Courage, and Diversity.” Visual artists across the Philippines are invited to be part of the art exhibit by submitting an art piece that depicts your reflections on the life, values, story, and achievements of famous African Americans in history such as civil rights activists and leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Maya Angelou, Mae Carol Jemison, the first African American to travel into space; and today with change makers like Amanda Gorman, the first National Youth Poet Laureate, known for her famous inaugural poem “The Hill We Climb”, and Kamala Harris, the first-ever African American and South Asian female to become Vice President in U.S. History, interpreted in your own context.

What does their impact and inspiration mean to you?
What significant values and stories do you intend to promote and express as you see them in your own life and perspective?

Selected works will be included in the first-ever African American History Month Virtual Exhibit of the U.S. Embassy which will be launched on February 26, 2021.

To submit your art work, go to http://bit.ly/2021-bhm from February 10 to February 24, 2021.
