CPE joins the 74th UNGA-First Committee
Center for Peace Education joins Control Arms from October 17-25, 2019 for the 74th United Nations General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security (UNGA-First Committee) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. First Committee is a month-long discussion covering all areas on disarmament such as autonomous drones, anti-personnel landmines, nuclear weapons and the international arms trade.

Every year, Peace Day is celebrated on the 21st day of September. It is a day of opportunity and reminder for humanity to continually and actively commit to Peace above all differences. This year the UN celebrates Peace Day with the theme “Climate Action for Peace” focusing on the global climate emergency. Extreme weather events as well as more frequent and severe disasters raise the risk of dispute over resources, and other climate-related conflict.

College Alums Advocate for Peace at the UN for Voices of SDG16+
Miriam College is proud to have two of its young alumnae promote our core value of Peace at the recent events in line with the United Nations’ High Level Political Forum at the UN Headquarters in New York. College Alumnae Sophia Dianne “Soda” Garcia (CSC 2000, GS 2007, HS 2011 and COL 2015) and Bianca Pabotoy (COL 2017), participated in the Voices of SDG16+ which focused on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
