Remembering the 50th Anniversary of the Martial Law Declaration in the Philippines: Our Continuing Struggle for Truth and Justice webinar

In celebration of Peace Week and the Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action and in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Martial Law Declaration in the Philippines, the Center for Peace Education and Pax Christi Pilipinas through Pax Christi of Miriam College High School (MCHS) organized the webinar “Our Continuing Struggle for Truth and Justice.” Organized on 23 September 2022, the webinar’s main speaker was Prof. Maria Serena “Maris” Diokno, a renowned historian and truth and justice advocate.

The Center for Peace Education (CPE), in partnership with Peace Boat, organized a forum on “Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons and War” with Ms. Meri Joyce of Peace Boat, Ms. Yumi Iwasaki of the Maruki Gallery and Dr. Kathy Matsui of the Seisen University as guests on 22 August 2022. Dr. Loreta Castro, CPE Executive Director, opened the session by giving a warm welcome to the participants, partners and guests. She highlighted the two purposes of the forum: first, to commemorate the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki 77 years ago, and second, to raise awareness of the peace provision in the Japanese Constitution. Miriam College Shares Good Peace Education Practices in the ASEAN-IPR and Philippine HEIs Virtual Learning Exchange

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), in partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ Institute for Peace & Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR), organized a Virtual Learning Exchange between ASEAN-IPR and Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on Peace Education. Held on June 6, the event featured Miriam College (MC) and Mindanao State University's (MSU) good practices in promoting peace education in their institutions.

Peace Week and Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action 2021

In celebration of the annual Peace Week and Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action, the Center for Peace Education (CPE) in coordination with the Peace Champs of Miriam College Quezon City, and Miriam College Nuvali planned peace activities for both MC students and their parents. Throughout the 2-week celebration, prayers and integration of peace themes in lessons by means of storytelling, videos, reflection-essays, paper crane-making, drawing and peace playlists, among others, were organized by teachers in the various units. CPE also held a Mass for Nonviolence and Just Peace last October 1 with the Higher Education Unit Campus Ministry Office (HEU-CMO).

In celebration of the Mindanao Solidarity Week (MSW), the Center for Peace Education (CPE) in partnership with Pax Christi Pilipinas and Pax Christi Miriam College organized the forum “Bangsamoro Transition and Marawi Rehab: Where Are We Now?” on November 10, 2020. Featuring our guest speaker Atty. Maisara Damdamun-Latiph, member of the Bangsamoro Parliament, the event was attended by over 60 members of the Miriam College community and guests.

In celebration of this year’s International Day of Peace and Catholic Nonviolence Days of Action, the Center for Peace Education (CPE) organized a series of activities highlighting the themes: "Making Nonviolence our Way of Life" and "Shaping Peace Together", which are the themes of the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative and the United Nations, respectively.
