College Alums Advocate for Peace at the UN for Voices of SDG16+
Miriam College is proud to have two of its young alumnae promote our core value of Peace at the recent events in line with the United Nations’ High Level Political Forum at the UN Headquarters in New York. College Alumnae Sophia Dianne “Soda” Garcia (CSC 2000, GS 2007, HS 2011 and COL 2015) and Bianca Pabotoy (COL 2017), participated in the Voices of SDG16+ which focused on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

Miriam College Alumna Sophia Dianne C. Garcia urges stronger UN action to protect women
“Indeed, we have a long way to go.” These were the words of Sophia Dianne C. Garcia (GS 2007, HS 2011, College 2015) in her call to action at the United Nations Security Council meeting in April 2019 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325. In her remarks before the UN Security Council, Sophia highlighted the challenge of increasing women’s participation in peace building in the Philippines.
