Child Study Center

The Miriam College-Child Study Center (MC-CSC) is the early childhood education unit of Miriam College for children 2 to 5 years old. Our First Step, Nursery, and Kindergarten programs provide students with a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that make them explore, investigate, discover, collaborate, create, and innovate. Through intentional teaching, they engage in meaningful and relevant activities that nurture them to become happy, confident, and lifelong learners.

Why Choose CSC

  • LEARNER-CENTERED CURRICULUM

Our curriculum utilizes an Integrated-Thematic Approach to teaching where children engage in diverse activities that give them meaningful opportunities to interact and collaborate with their peers, teachers, and the environment. They also engage in STEAM-based activities that enable them to ask questions, explore, investigate, discover, problem-solve, create, and innovate.

  • AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT OF CHILDREN’S PROGRESS

We use an efficient system of monitoring and evaluating student progress based on ongoing assessments. This include anecdotal records of the child’s behavior and daily performance, performance-based and authentic assessments, portfolios, and narrative reports.

  •
  • STRONG PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE HOME AND THE SCHOOL

The CSC Parents are true partners in education as they are very much involved when they volunteer to become resource speakers in class, attend regular Parent-Teacher Conferences, participate in activities of the Parent-Teachers Association, etc. All these generate strong support for the school.

  • STIMULATING TEACHING-LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Our teaching-learning environment includes learning spaces and age-appropriate materials that promote effective communication skills, creativity, and critical thinking.

  •
  • A SPECIAL YEAR-END AND CULMINATING ACTIVITY

The CSC students present an original Filipino children’s stage play written and directed by the school’s faculty and administrators which highlights the language, cognitive, social-emotional, and physical skills that the children have gained throughout the school year.

  • PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITIES

We have extensive networking, benchmarking and engagement with local and international schools to advance global competitiveness and academic excellence.

Learning Areas

TINKER LAB

TINKER LAB

Tinkering is a powerful and empowering way to learn. At the Tinker Lab, our students explore assorted materials to make their ideas come to life. Here, children can sharpen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) activities. The Tinker Lab provides learning opportunities that promote both independence and collaboration, allowing the children to test their own ideas and creations.

COOKING AREA

COOKING AREA

Cooking is a messy and yet a delicious and learning-filled activity that targets different areas in the curriculum. Our very own cooking areas serve as venues for our students to explore their culinary creativity while learning how to read, follow multi-step instructions, estimate, count, and much more.

The “garden-to-table” concept, as well as the importance of proper nutrition, are also introduced when the harvest from our vegetable garden are used for food preparation in this area.  The best part is enjoying the “fruits” of their labor as children partake of the meal of vegetables which they have planted, harvested, and prepared themselves.

VEGETABLE GARDEN

VEGETABLE GARDEN

Our vegetable garden, lovingly called “Our Lady’s Garden”, provides a wealth of opportunities for kids to get their hands dirty through experiential learning in a wide array of disciplines. Our students develop their Math skills by counting, measuring, and comparing. For Language Arts, our vegetable garden makes children’s literature come alive by planting different plants found in their favorite books and stories. In addition, gardening teaches children responsibility, teamwork and being stewards of God’s creation.

PLAY AREAS

PLAY AREAS

The CSC boasts of several indoor and outdoor play areas. We have 10 to be exact! Each play area is unique and provides a different experience for our students. Through play, our students’ gross motor skills are improved as their bodies are strengthened through active play.  Their social skills are improved as well through interaction with peers.
