Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education prepares you for a career in early childhood education, specifically in the formation of students in the preschool and elementary levels. The program provides a strong foundation of principles on early childhood care and education. You will be immersed in actual early childhood schools, centers and institutions that will enable you to experience the application of these principles.

What Will I Study?

Below are some of the topics and core courses that you will take:

This course provides you with an understanding of major theories and research findings in the physical, cognitive, language and social/emotional domains of development of young children from conception through age 8. You will do observations in early childhood schools and centers to contextualize the discussions in your class.
This course highlights the importance of early childhood education and the role of early childhood professionals. You will learn more about the field of early childhood education: its fundamental concepts, historical, philosophical, theoretical roots and legal frameworks with focus on contemporary early childhood education programs in the Philippines.
The importance of play and other developmentally appropriate practices and methods that address the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of the young learners are the focal points of this course. You will design appropriate play-based learning activities for young children.
The concentration of this course is the various aspects of assessment of young children’s development and learning. This is relevant in developing different types of quantitative and qualitative assessments and in formulating rubrics to determine children’s development and learning.
This course emphasizes the utilization of appropriate educational technology in the classroom through the use of hands-on experiences that will examine educational software and websites, along with technology. You will develop appropriate and interactive classroom applications and instructional materials for young learners.
This course explores principles in planning and developing curriculum for children ages 0 to 8 through an in-depth study of early childhood curriculum models and approaches. These are essential in crafting a developmentally appropriate and child centered curriculum which you could use in planning or putting up a school or daycare center.
This course underscores the fundamentals of infant and toddler development. You will gain essential skills in planning programs, quality routines, appropriate environments, materials, activities and strategies for teaching infants and toddlers.
This course is all about planning, setting up and evaluating developmentally-appropriate and child-centered physical, interpersonal and temporal learning environments in diverse early childhood settings. This provides a good foundation in designing learning environments which are engaging and impactful for the developing child.
The organization and management of early childhood education programs are vital in the execution of developmentally appropriate and learner-centered curriculum. This course engages you in planning, organizing, managing and evaluating programs and facilities for children, record-keeping, and budgeting. You are also immersed in the licensing and accreditation procedures of the Department of Education and the Early Childhood Care and Development Council.
