I started practicing yoga about 10 years ago with a once a week class. On my first year, one of my mat-mates told me that I looked so calm and focused while practicing which surprised me because I know I had been having difficulty achieving the poses. However, this made me realize that during yoga class, I can retreat into my own time and space and ignore the outside world. This moment of finding peace while in a difficult pose hooked me to yoga.

Only when I began practicing yoga at the ILAW Center made me realize that I can and should do more. My teachers at the ILAW Center challenge me to make my yoga practice deeper by daily yoga self-practice (practice yoga alone without a teacher), and exploring activities/philosophies related to yoga like meditation, writing a yoga practice journal, or reading the Yoga Sutras. I’m now in the process of integrating these into my daily habit and planning to take an intensive yoga training course sometime in the near future.
