CERTIFICATE IN

International Studies

The Certificate Course in International Studies is drawn from the IS Master’s degree program. It is designed for professionals who want to upgrade their competency in global development affairs. Completed certificate courses are credited to the students should they decide to earn an MIS or MAIS degree.

What Will I Study?

Below are some of the courses that you will take:

Global Issues

Examines the history and politics behind the conceptual and programmatic development of global public ‘goods’ and ‘bads’ and how the international community, especially global governance institutions, respond to these.

Theoretical Perspectives & Issues in International Studies

Examines various theories and perspectives to explain global politics and inter-state relations. It provides a selective analytical overview of the evolution of linkages and strategies in international relations and development theories

Development Theories & Strategies

Provides the intellectual and conceptual background in understanding and assessing the actors, institutions, processes, and mechanisms that define the scope and direction of international development.

International Peace and Security

Highlights the theoretical and empirical literature on the various approaches and practices in the pursuit of international / global peace and security. It focuses on major conflicts and sources of insecurities and the contending responses from both state and non-state actors.

Global Political Economy

Examines how trade, investment and financial regimes emerge and define the range of opportunities and vulnerabilities experienced by states and societies whose development has traditionally been characterized by North-South divide.

Creative and Transformative Leadership

Examines issues that leaders must face exercising leadership amidst competing interests and power imbalances in a globalized world of heightened uncertainties and risks.
