DELIVERY OF LEARNING

Modular Scheme

A module is an independent course that is necessary in delivering the program. A modular course is an approach in which content is clustered in a logical way that would allow scaffolding of knowledge and skills to be able to achieve the learning objectives. Modules are more focused as key topics are prioritized.

For every cycle, students will focus on a maximum of three to four courses.

Advantages of modular delivery:

  • Faculty can spend more time with each student because of increased teaching time.
  • Students have less information to deal with during each school day and could delve deeper into the each course.
  • The decreased number of courses, students can focus on their requirements better.

ENROLLMENT

Full Time Enrollment

Students, upon registration, may opt to enroll all the courses required by their curriculum for the semester, one time. This includes courses in the 1st cycle and the 2nd cycle. Enrollment of all these required courses will be done during the 1st cycle.

Part Time Enrollment

Students may also opt to enroll only the courses offered during the 1st cycle, then enroll the next set of courses for the 2nd cycle towards the end of the 1st cycle*. Enrollment for the 2nd cycle is also open to those students who are not yet ready to attend classes during the 1st cycle.

Enrolling a certain number of units that is less than the required number of units per cycle* is also allowed.

  WHAT IS A CYCLE?

A cycle covers 9 weeks. There are 2 cycles in a semester.

A maximum of four modular courses will be offered per cycle depending on the nature of the academic program.

CONTACT HOURS ON KNOLLER

Time on Task

Contact hours in a traditional classroom setting would require faculty and students to meet regularly in a semester. However, in an online learning environment, the number of hours is computed based on how long students will engage in the activity. Instead of focusing on the total number of face to face sessions, the focus should be on the total time on task.

How to compute Time on Task?

In an online learning environment, since the focus is on tasks, one unit is equivalent to 9 hours of tasks. Thus, for every 3-unit course, there is an equivalent of 27 hours of time on tasks per week.

However, we recognize that students are taking 3 to 4 courses per cycle, thus, students may only be given 15-20 hours of tasks per week. 15 to 20 hours can be divided in five or six days depending on how you want to work on the requirements.

How will your teacher estimate the number of hours that you will spend working on each task?

Your teacher may use any of these 3 methods:

Your teacher use their own experience to estimate time and effort you need to successfully complete a task.
Your teachers will estimate how long it would take him or her to complete the task, multiply it by 3 or 4. It is assumed that students will take 3 or 4 times longer to accomplish as task compared to a teacher.
Your teacher will ask you how long it will take you to complete a task and use this data to design future activities
