Middle School

The Miriam College Middle School or MCMS was formed as a response to the unique needs of students in the pre-adolescent and adolescent age group. It is an engaging transition program that enables learners aged 11 to 13 years old to move gradually towards independent learning through a developmentally-appropriate mix of hands-on, collaborative, and technology-aided experiences.

MCMS houses the terminal level of elementary school (Grade 6) and the first two levels of junior high school (Grades 7 and 8). With its own set of administrators, supervisors, and coordinators, this unit works to provide a holistic learning environment that enables learners to be well-equipped for the challenges of the future. It produces students who are confident, cognizant of global issues, grounded in Christian values, and imbued with a sense of mission and purpose.

  • STUDENT-CENTERED APPROACH

A student-centered teaching framework that celebrates the learners' multiple intelligences is in place. The use of varied assessment techniques are applied to capture diverse modes of learning. Activities and programs are geared towards maximized participation and volunteerism

  •
  • CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

Learners are given the opportunity to choose, to lead, and to serve their clubs or organizations and their partner associations on and off campus through an interest-based student activities program. Prior to the start of a new school year, students choose their clubs based on their interests.

  • LEARNING WITH TECHNOLOGY

Students cultivate a lifelong love for learning as they continue to become globally-responsive citizens with the use of technology through the e-Learning program. Students learn and interact through applications, eBooks, and utilize Genyo, a learning management system, on their iPads.

COMPREHENSIVE VALUES FORMATION PROGRAM

Topics taught in all subjects integrate the school’s core values of truth, peace, justice, and the integrity of creation. The homeroom and guidance programs of the unit focus on the students’ self-awareness and self-concept. Lingap Kapwa, a service-oriented program which involves with children from partner communities, allows them to develop awareness and a strong sense of social responsibility, community, and solidarity. Another activity called the Leaders’ League helps develop students’ leadership skills. Under this, students are empowered to be responsible decision-makers and agents of social change through self-discovery.

EXPOSURE TO LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

School pride is fostered through participation in different academic and extra-curricular competitions and activities, both locally and abroad. Through a dynamic sports program supported by a network of different athletics associations, our nine varsity teams are able to compete throughout the school year. Our programs Enrichment for English (ProEn) and STEM and Pool of Student Exemplars (PoSE) for Math, Science, and Araling Panlipunan, on the other hand, expose students to meaningful and challenging academic activities in and outside of school. There are also opportunities for selected teams to participate in local and international competitions.
