Deans, reps gather at HSSIC for TNE Program orientation

Last June 30, deans and representatives from various Centers of Development and Excellence for Teacher Education in the Philippines gathered at the Miriam College–Henry Sy, Sr. Innovation Center (HSSIC) for the orientation program on the Transnational Education (TNE) Program for Teacher Education.
Miriam College is the sole women’s college among 10 Philippine Higher Educational Institutions chosen to lead in the development of unique programs with identified UK Universities.  The school has partnered with Goldsmiths’ College of the University of London and developed the program Designing Education which aims to fuse two distinct but connected fields which are Design and Education.
The TNE program is under the Joint Development of Niche Programs in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education and the British Council.
Participants were welcomed by Vice President for Academic Affairs of Miriam College, Dr. Maria Lourdes Q. Baybay. The event was also graced by CHED Director IV for the Office of Programs and Standards, Dr. Amelia A. Biglete, and Chair of the CHED Technical Panel for Teacher Education, Dr. Purita Bilbao.
The day was filled with novel activities as the deans and representatives experienced the very concept of design and innovation through various introductory talks, hands-on chair building activity, and an innovative setup for their luncheon.
CHED lead for Institutional Development and Innovation Grants, Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya, discussed the funding options for participation in the TNE post graduate certificate in Designing Education and masters programs.  The whole day interaction was capped by an interactive skype conference with two professors from Goldsmiths’ College University of London.
The program was moderated by Director for Innovation Development, Dr. Edizon A. Fermin, and Child Development and Education Chair and HEU innovation Coordinator Dr. Trixie Marie J. Sison.
