CAS celebrates COMM Week

The Department of Communication, in partnership with the Communication Society, celebrated Communication Week 2018 last March 5-9 with a theme “Coalesce: The Courage and Beauty of a Woman Communicator.”

This year’s celebration featured educational booths and workshops to complement the skills and knowledge of Communication students. COMM Week is celebrated yearly to commemorate the founding of the Bachelor of Arts in Communication course.

The activities Bidyofest 2018 and On-the-Job Training orientation opened this year’s COMM Week. Bidyofest 2018, a film competition for 4rth Year students, carried the theme “Cinepride: Tell Your Reel Story”. The aim was to promote diversity and openness in the art of filmmaking. On-the-Job Training, on the other hand, featured guest speakers from ABS-CBN Corporation to orient 3rd year students in preparation for their job internship.

Day 2 and 3 featured the following activities: CCATT Models’ #IamConfident: Open Shoot and Rec@p’s Rec@pation: An Essay Writing and Photography Challenge; MCTV and Radio MC’s “Real for Reel: Your 1-Minute On-Cam Journey”; and CCATT Street’s Zumba session titled, “Sayaw, Kikay!”

Day 4 tackled the more serious topic of press freedom. The Department together with the International Association of Women in Radio and Television organized the event titled, “Women in Communication and Press Freedom: A Forum on Courageous Women Seeking and Speaking the Truth in the Midst of Uncertainty”. Featured speakers were Miriam College alumna Dabet Panelo of Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo, Camille Abadicio of CNN Philippines, and Menchie Silvestre of TV5’s Alagang Kapatid Foundation.

Closing the celebration was the activity Miss Commgeniality 2018, a biennial pageant that aims to find an ambassador who will best represent the Communication Department in and outside of the school. Eight contestants showcased their beauty, wit, and advocacy but 3rd Year student Chrissiane Benitez bested them all and was name Miss Commgenialitiy 2018.
