Communication students from Radio MC won 3rd Place in the Best Radio Documentary category for their entry titled, “Fake News: The Past, the Present and its Consequences” at the annual PODCON Student Awards (PS Awards) held from February 2-3, 2018 at the University of Santo Tomas Civil Law Auditorium.
Their winning documentary covered different forms of media in modern society while taking listeners back in time and reviewing the reasons behind the prevalence of fake news. It sent the message that ‘fake news’ is here to stay but it is up to the listeners to discern and act on it.
The PS Awards is part of PODCON 6 initiated by the PODCON Organizing Team and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP). It carried the theme “Upholding Media Credibility Amid the Age of Fake News” and showcased the talents and skills of aspiring radio broadcasters.
The competition categories were Best Radio Documentary, Best Radio Drama, and Best Disk Jockey. Participating schools include UST, DLSU Manila, DLSU Dasmariñas, Bulacan State University, Adamson, PUP, and Miriam College.
PODCON 6 was able to focus on fake news and the importance of media credibility in the age of misinformation.
