The 15-member student delegation sent by the Department of International Studies to the 68th Session of the Model United Nations of the Far West (MUNFW) received the Slanczka Achievement Certificates for demonstrating excellence in the art and practice of diplomacy as representatives of the countries United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, and Chile.

The MUNFW Session was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel-SFO Airport in California, USA last April 20-24. Accompanying the students was faculty advisor Charity Durano.

The MUNFW provides an environment in which students can better understand the structure and procedures, as well as the process which takes place within the UN.

In 2019, upon the invitation of Heidelberg University, the department will chair the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in time for the 69th MUNFW Session. Miriam College will join the consortium of schools composed of Arizona State University, Heidelberg University, Montana State University, Western Oregon University, and Whittier College in the preparation for next year’s session.

The annual Miriam College-International Studies Model United Nations convened by the Department of International Studies is patterned after the MUNFW. By Veronica Angeles
