Fifteen United Board Scholars from six different countries recently completed the Intensive English Language Program managed by the Miriam College Language Learning Center.
The said program was a meaningful fusion of enriching classroom sessions on English for Academic Purposes and English for Professional Success and cultural tours. It is intended to provide opportunities the United Board Scholars to increase their fluency and accuracy in using English in varied social, academic, and workplace settings.
The Intensive English Language Program has three modules: Intensive English Program, Fundamentals of Research Writing, and Effective Oral Communication in the Workplace. The sessions were handled by Kornellie Raquitico, MA, LPT, Grace Annette Soriano MA, LPT, and Lourdes Abad, MA, LPT. They provided the UB Scholars with the essential foundation in Functional English, Research Writing, and Oral Communication in the Workplace.
Immersing in Philippine culture was another exciting aspect of the program. The participants had a series of trips to the University of the Philippines, Taal Basilica, Casa Villa Vicencio, Rizal Park, and shopping malls.
A closing ceremony was held last August 15, 2019 at the MMJ Foyer. Ms. Linda Susilowati, a UB scholar from Satya Wacana Christian University, Indonesia, shared her most memorable experiences at MC while Ms. Kornellie Raquitico, one of their resource speakers, encouraged the students to bring their insights from the seven-week program back home with a humble and serving heart.
Gifts from their respective institutions were given by Ms. Thu Hang Bui (Vietnam National University), and Ms. Linda Susilowati (Satya Wacana Christian University) to Dr. Jasmin Nario-Galace (Miriam College Vice-President for Academic Affairs).
The program ended with the UB Scholars singing “We are Unity” and the awarding of Certificates of Completion.
