BS Entrepreneurship students awarded as Oro Plato Masa Culinary Competition’s Grand Champion

Miriam College BS Entrepreneurship students stood out during the nationwide culinary competition, Oro Plato Masa. Out of the 75 entries from different culinary schools, Miriam College bagged the Grand Prize in the Dessert Category and 2nd-runner up prize in the Savory category. The competition happened last February 22, 2020, at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia.

Franz Ansherina Maniti and Andrea Isabel Ereño created the dessert dishes named Ube Malagkit, Kalabasa con Keso and Minangga Bread that paved their way to the Grand Prize. Their inspiration in making the desserts were the ingredients: Ube, dried mangoes, and Keso de Bola. The savory dishes created by Jamaica Marie Marcelo and Ma. Althea Nicole Supleo garnered the 2nd-runner up spot. Their Mayamang Dagat, Ulo at Tenga ng Gera, and Ensaladang Bahura were inspired by the famous Filipino dishes, Sinigang and Sisig.
The student achievers shared that the competition was nerve-wracking as this was their first time to join a culinary competition. Winning the contest came as a surprise to the student chefs. But at the same time, it boosted their pride for having competed with top culinary schools nationwide. According to the students, the competition became an avenue where they showcased culinary skills that they learned at Miriam College.

Oro Plato Masa is a nationwide inter-school culinary competition launched by DTC (Direct to Consumer) Promos last September 17, 2019. Other schools that won the competition were Lyceum of the Philippines Manila, University of Santo Tomas, Advance Central College, and STI-Pasay EDSA.
