IS Faculty Members as speakers and discussants during the South/South East Asian University Network Webinar “Post-COVID Regional Cooperation:New Opportunities and  New Actions”

Faculty members of Miriam College-Department of International Studies participated as speakers and discussants during webinar on “Post-COVID Regional Cooperation: New Opportunities and New Actions held last October 21, 2020 via zoom. The conference was organized by the South/South East Asian University Network which aims to map out possibilities for what South and Southeast Asian can do to strengthen regional cooperation in the areas of investment, trade, official development aid, and international/regional institutions.

Dr. Rommel Banlaoi talked about the ASEAN response to China’s Belt and Road Initiative stressing security challenges and opportunities. Ms. Jelen Paclarin discussed about the women and the ASEAN 2025, particularly focusing on the gender and human rights dimensions of the ASEAN Economic Community blueprint. Mr. Kebart Licayan shared selected Southeast Asian states’ military response to the pandemic in connection with the civilian and military relations. Dr. Mel Reyes provided critical inputs on post-COVID trade cooperation alongside the issues and challenges associated with economic and financial cooperation in South and Southeast Asia. While Ms. Lorna Israel imparted crucial inputs on post-COVID investment cooperation by posing a provoking question - “are we really in a post-covid stage?”
