Miriam College students of the Department of International Studies received four (4) out of the six (6) awards during the 2021 ASEAN Youth Students’ Dialogue Competition held on August 22 to 23, 2021 via zoom platform. These awards include Honorable Mentions, Best Delegates and Best Team. The competition unleash the delegates diplomatic and delegating skills while becoming more aware of global environmental issues.

The MC IS delegates represented the countries of Indonesia and Malaysia where they proposed effective and comprehensive legal framework or solution on eco-tourism and marine regulation. Some of their recommendations include a project marine innovation consisting of a centralized waste management system, funding researchers and innovators, and integrating women’s task force for the reviving the environment operation. They also stressed the critical pillars in addressing ecotourism issues such as education, tourism operations, conservation program, and socio-economic development which likewise promote social inclusion and poverty reduction. There were also proposals on green cities and travelers’ guide to ecotourism.

ASOC was organized by the Faculty of Law, University Technology MARA (UiTM), through its internal student’s associations, Asian Law Students’ Association and Environmental Law and Awareness Club. Other partners include ALSA International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Eco Club IIUM, University of Indonesia, and Miriam College Department of International Studies.
