Nerhema Oliva, MC IS delegate, received the Diplomatic Commendation Award in the Green Summit Model United Nations (GSMUN)

Second Year International Studies student, Nerhema Oliva is a delegate of South Korea under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific, received the Diplomatic Commendation Award. This award is issued to a Delegate that consistently displays professional diplomatic virtues of empathy, cooperation, and inclusion.

In partnership with STEAR, the Green Summit Model United Nations (GSMUN) was held virtually on the 19th - 20th of March 2022 aimed to generate awareness about climate change in anticipation of Humanitarian Affairs Asia’s inaugural Green Summit to be held at the United Nations in Bangkok, Thailand, in December 2022. The three committees (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees – Climate Refugees, African Union, and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) are responsible for creating solutions to the biggest climate challenges which aims to provide a focused experience to encourages like-minded young people to think about what the international community can (and should!) do to help us transition to a more sustainable world.

“Attending GSMUN is an incredible honor and opportunity for me; the two-day conference has exposed me to a depth of knowledge about the topics we discussed and debated, my interactions have made enormous progress as I compete and debate with international students, and as an IS student, I am cognizant of my key in improving on how I can create and form resolutions that I know will resolve global issues; this gives hope that we youth can still participate and create a change. It is my hope to attend the actual unveiling of GSMUN in Thailand with the same goal of changing and impacting the world, as well as serving as an inspiration to my fellow youth”, says Nerhema L. Oliva (ABIS, 2nd). -- By Ysabelle Milyn R. Mendoza
