International Studies Society and the Department of International Studies kick off its first-ever IS Week

International Studies Society and the Department of International Studies kick off its first-ever IS Week with the theme “ASEAN Matters: The Cornerstone of Innovation and Development” last March 22, 2023 at the ESI Conference Room. The opening remarks were commenced by Ambassador Laura “Lullah” Quiambao- Del Rosario. Followed by the keynote speaker, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Philippines, H.E. Agus Widjojo, who centered his discussion on “ASEAN’s Role as the Cornerstone of Regional Cooperation in the 21st Century.” Ambassador Agus Widjojo emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperative actions through peaceful settlements and focusing on policies and cooperative mechanisms of the ASEAN community.

The Talkback session was facilitated by Ms. Lorna Israel, in which students from Far Eastern University and Miriam College actively participated in the discussion by raising relevant questions focusing on ASEAN's role in addressing global challenges, as well as on how ASEAN strengthens cooperative actions and inter-country relations.

Right after the event, students were free to roam around the IS Bazaar, which provides educational and internship opportunities for the IS students. The booths showcased their distinctive cultures by showcasing their cuisines and cultural materials.  The booths present at the IS Bazaar are partnership embassies, including the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines Spanish Ministry of Education, and the Embassy of Indonesia in the Philippines. Additionally,  there are non-profit organizations present at the event, namely UNHCR, CEDAW Youth MC Chapter, and Miriam College International Studies Society, as well as Fulbright Philippines and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, that offer internship and scholarship programs for IS students.
